I do my observing in a classroom with a teacher who has mostly disabled children AND parents. She has one hour of prep and that is spent trying to help tutor her students or on the phone with her disabled parents trying to help them help their children. Which means she spends hours of her time at home which should be spent with her family grading homework and recording it. On top of all of that next year they want to go an extra hour in school and also an extra twenty-two days with only a one percent pay increase. Next year is not looking very promising. The administration said that she got all the disabled students and parents by coincidence. But then why would they not just go back and change it? I just think this is too overwhelming for even the best of the best teachers to handle. How can a teacher enjoy her job? How can she even do her job productive? And it would only be the kids suffering in their education. I could see many teachers getting discouraged and not want to teach anymore. I think that is how I would feel, especially if I was a new teacher. Each child one-on-one is OK, but the whole class together, NO. It is just a shame that all these outside factors have to ruin the love of teaching, which is what I think it can easily do to many people. What is the problem here and what is the solution? I think the most obvious thing I can think of would be money. Not wanting to pay for more teachers to make classes smaller and such. But teachers get paid so little as is, so how is there not enough money? The problem and solution is still something I wonder about. I have talked to many teachers though and they have similar stories like this. How sad!!!!!
